Note: Schiro - Joseph Gasper Schiro, a retired real estate developer, died Tuesday at Mercy+Baptist Medical Center. He was 90. Mr. Schiro was born in Contessa Entellina, Italy, and lived in New Orleans for 75 years. He developed Park Island on Bayou St. John and Schiro Park in Harahan. He also owned a food store in Gentilly for many years. He was president of the Contessa Entellina Society for 17 years and was named its outstanding member in 1989. He was a board member of the American Italian Renaissance Foundation. In 1964, he was named a cavalier of the Republic of Italy in recognition of his assistance in restoring All Saints Church in Contessa Entellina. He also was honored for his work on behalf of victims of an Italian earthquake. Survivors include three sons, Gasper J. and Michael A. Schiro Sr., both of New Orleans, and Joseph J. Schiro of Hammond; and three grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd. Visitation will be from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery. 03-03-1995 Times Picayune
