The Times Picayune, New Orleans, La Sunday Morning November 19, 1967. Mass for Tow Priests today Fathers DiMaggio, Tardo died in Italy. A High Mass for two Italian priests with relatives and friends in New Orleans will be offered by the Rev. Vincent Liberto at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. MaryÙus Italian Church, 1114 Chartres Street in the Vieux Carre. The clergymen, the Rev. Giovanni DiMaggio and the Rev. Lorenzo Tardo, died recently in Italy. Father DiMaggio, 58, died of a heart attack in Contessa Entellina, where he was pastor of the Annunciation and St. Nicholas churches. He was also a professor of theology at the University of Palermo and was noted for his charitable work. He was in the process of establishing a home for the aged at the time of his death. The priest visited New Orleans, September 8, 1962, the 75th anniversary of the Contessa Entellina Society, and was celebrant of the Mass for that event.
Father Tardo, 84, died in Grottaferrata, near Rome. He was an expert in Byzantine music and a teacher. His survivorÙus include a nephew and a niece in New Orleans, Dr. Cosmo Tardo and Miss Lena Tardo. Members of the Contessa Entellina Society will attend the Mass, along with relatives and friends of the priests.
