Mercedes Editha (Dede) Maraist Cuccia passed away peacefully on October 9, 2006 in Houston, Texas. She was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans until 2005. She was born July 17, 1931 to Wade Joseph Maraist and Agnes Vera Blaise Maraist. She was preceded in death by her husband Dominick Luke Cuccia. She is survived by her son Mark Joseph Cuccia, her two daughters Joan Elisabeth Cuccia Lora and Martha Louise Cuccia, her two granddaughters Saheba Eulalie Cuccia and Bakhit Marcelite Cuccia and her son-in-law Matthew Nuncy Lora. She is also survived by her sister Agnes Vera (Scotty) Maraist Broussard and her brother-in-law Lawrence Oubre Broussard, Jr., MD. She received her Baccalaureate from H. Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in 1951 and her Master of Education from Louisiana State University in 1952. She taught school in France in the 1950's and in New Orleans thereafter. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel of Lamana- Panno- Fallo, 1717 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 11:00 am. Interment in St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery. Friends may visit on Thursday after 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund of Houston or Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in New Orleans.
