Note: John is in the 1920 US census of California in the city of Los Angeles, Precenct 683, ED 243, Page 15A
With him is his wife Concetta, and son, Nick, age 33, daughter, Katherine, age 18, son, Pete, age 13, and son, Frankie, age 9.

"From Marietta Nuccio Rushing. My maternal great grandparents were from Contessa Entellina.
Their names were Giovanni DiBetta and Concetta Sacco DiBetta. Concetta's mother's maiden name was Amato. I think Giovanni was born in 1849.
Giovanni and Concetta's children were Marietta (my grandmother), Antonino, Michele, Grazia, Giuseppe and Catherina. All of their children were born in Contessa Entellina except for Catherina who was born in America.
Through the Ellis Island records, I have them recorded as coming to the United States on December 01, 1899. Their port of departure was Palermo. The ship they traveled on was the Bolivia. From New York, they traveled to New Orleans where they lived for a brief amount of time. The family left New Orleans because of the treatment that the Italians received from the Anglos. They then journied to Tampa, Florida where they lived for a while. Soon after arriving in Tampa, their daughter Marietta married Fillipo Licata.
Giovanni was not content with the weather in Florida. He sent his son Michele to California to see if the weather was more conducive to raising grapes. When Michele returned, he had only praise for California. The family again took up roots and traveled to California where the family remains today. Giovanni went from raising grapes to the wine business where he was extremly successful. Giovanni was deceased in June 15, 1924. Concetta passed on in November of 1957.
Giovanni and Concetta's daughter Marietta was the only child who did not move to California as she had married Fillipo who was very active in his community.
Marietta died in 1918 during the flu epidemic."
